Lokman family demands minister’s removal

Family of murdered mayor wants govt to sack minister Raju for fair probe; IGP says accused not arrested yet on 'strategic ground'

The family of the slain mayor and people from all walks of life in Narsingdi yesterday reacted sharply over the police 'inaction' to detain a minister's brother and two others accused in the Lokman Hossain murder case.
Expressing deep frustration and anxiety, Lokman's family demanded that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina axes minister Rajiuddin from the cabinet to ensure fair and impartial investigation of the case.
This is for the first time the slain mayor's family members came up with such a demand. Earlier on different times, Lokman's family alleged that the minister Rajiuddin and his brother Salauddin Ahmed were behind the murder.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker at a press briefing yesterday said arresting any accused is not always possible due to strategic reasons or time limitation.
The police chief made the comment when reporters asked him about police's role of not arresting the three accused in the case after they appeared before the High Court on Sunday to seek anticipatory bail, although they are "fugitive" according to the police. more details>>
